Three changes worth knowing about

The ACT abolished stamp duty for first home buyers

From 1 July 2026, eligible first home buyers in the ACT pay nothing, with no price cap and no income test. It is the first place in Australia to go that far. See the ACT rules.

Tasmania's exemption quietly ended

Tasmania's full exemption for homes up to $750,000 finished on 30 June 2026 and was not extended. First home buyers there now pay the same duty as everyone else, and a lot of pages online have not caught up. See the Tasmanian rules.

WA lifted its thresholds by $100,000

The full exemption moved from $500,000 to $600,000, and the concession ceiling from $700,000 to $800,000, across the whole state. See the WA rules.
